Food plays such an essential part in our lives, and but it's one of our worst enemies as effectively. 1. Why is strength training virtually unknown in Japan?

Simply because most people do not understand strength training. The typical misunderstanding I've run into is that weightlifting is only for building big bulging muscles. It's not better.To burn fat your diet needs to be on check.Its all about your diet.The people that tell you that strength training is better then cardio are the people who follow a strict deficit, if you are on a calorie deficit diet of course that strength would be better then cardio, because you are going to burn fat with that deficit and shape up your muscles. Cardio is used to create that deficit or push you throughout a further deficit. Doing cardio alone will result in burning muscles that's why it's important to combine cardio and strength and follow a proper diet.You will lose fat without cardio and without strength training only by your diet, with strength training you are going to shape your body proportion. Which will make you carry more muscle then fat, when you carry more muscle then fat you look more in proportion. If you are on a deficit and you do cardio lots of the times a week and never use strength training, here it is what most likely will happen, your cardio will force you to a further deficit a deeper one by burning more calories and eventually you will end up losing fat combined with muscle mass, then you will end up looking skinny-fat where your body carries more fat and less muscles, which is not a good place to be in. The more muscle and less fat you carry the better you look the more your aesthetics improve.1 pound=3500 calories to lose a pound a week you need to be on a -500 deficit on daily basis. You can do as much as cardio you want and as much as strength training as you want you wo not even lose an inch if you are eating on a surplus.So it comes down to your diet which is 90% of the work, the rest 10% is your cardio-strength training which will sculpt and shape your body. If you are on a deficit with your diet you do not really need to do cardio you just need to shape up your muscles with strength training, that's why most of the people avoid cardio because it's a waste of time because they are in a proper deficit and they just go with strength training to shape their body proportion meaning they know what they are eating and how much they are eating.

First of all, your calorie burn estimate is off: 1 pound of muscle burns seven to 10 calories per day, not 20. Now, to answer your question, I think both cardio and resistance training are important for fat loss, but if I had to choose one, it would definitely be strength training. Why?Strength training is a muscle-preserving activity. Training for muscle growth while you diet helps shift the balance of muscle and fat in your body. Done correctly, this will result in a much leaner and healthier looking physique than cardio and diet alone. Without strength training, you can end your diet looking 'skinny fat' and become dissatisfied with your results. Strength workouts can elevate the heart rate to a comparable degree to interval-style cardio training. This means that strength training provides a metabolically taxing stimulus to your body, which will increase your total calorie expenditure and thereby help promote long term fat loss when done consistently.Strength training has fat-burning effects that persist outside of the gym. Strength workouts may afford further benefits for weight management due to excess post exercise oxygen consumption (EPOC). EPOC is a period of elevated calorie expenditure that persists after moderate to intense bouts of exercise. More total calories burned means more fat loss-period. If you want to lose fat efficiently, then you should do cardio, weight training, and fix your diet.
