Why Does Toyota Put Led Headlights on the Corolla?

It means lifetime service

1. Will switching from standard halogen to LED headlights reduce engine strain?

It would but you would never notice the difference. A standard headlight light bulb draws 60 watts, 120 watts for the pair. That equates to a bit more than 1/10 of a horsepower.

2. Different Types of Headlight Bulb for Cars | Most Popular 3

Car headlights play a critical role on the road as they help ensure that drivers travel safely at night. Without them, it would be impossible to travel when the night starts to set in. Knowing the different types of car headlights in the market is critical especially since you will have to replace damaged bulbs at some point. In the majority of headlight sealing (housings), you will likely spot a high or low-beam headlight, cornering light, parking light, turn sign, or blinker. You may also have daytime running lights or DRLs, which light on every time the car engine is running. Knowing all car headlights types available is important if you want to find the best LED headlights, Xenon bulbs or traditional filament bulbs for your car. But you might want to ask yourself first, what kind of headlights do I have? At the end of the day, your headlights may stop working and you may be forced to replace the bulbs that blew out. In short, there are three types of headlight bulbs you will find in most car headlights and in some cases these bulbs can be used together. Alongside different types of headlights, there are also many different types of headlight fittings which is essential you know before you buy. We've written a guide for people asking what headlight bulbs do I need?. What Are The Different Types of Headlights? There are three main different types of headlights. These car headlights types are Halogen, Xenon & LED headlights. Each work quite differently in the way they produce light and therefore produce different types of light on the road. Halogen or filament headlights have ruled the market for a very long time. It's only recently that people have become aware of other robust alternatives. These headlights work like normal household bulbs in the sense that they shine brightly when a very thin metal filament is heated by an electrical current. The good news about halogen bulbs is that they are compatible with most applications. They are also cost-effective, last long, and are dimmable. Also, they are easy to replace, unlike sealed beams which are integrated with reflectors and lenses. What is more, these bulbs are filled with halogen gases which make the bulbs hotter and brighter. But you will also find bulbs (headlights) that use Xenon gas instead of halogen. Xenon gas produces white and bright color than halogen. In old fleet truck models, halogen bulbs are enclosed in a headlight lens, Therefore, they have to be changed as one (unit) and that's why they are referred to as sealed beams. Parking lights, taillights, reverse lights, and turn signals use halogen or filament bulbs, though more and more people are switching to LED headlights. One disadvantage is that halogen bulbs produce a faint yellow glow, so the light is not ineffective on the road. But these lights work well when there's fog because white light tends to bounce back in these conditions. All in all, halogen bulbs can be a great solution if you are driving under foggy weather conditions. HID or High-Intensity Discharge bulbs employ a totally different technology. In principle, they do not use filament bulbs. Instead, they work differently as the light is produced when an arc of electric power jumps across a pair of electrodes trapped inside a glass tube full of xenon gas. These lights use a ballast, which is an electric circuit responsible for starting and controlling the light output. The ballast is critical as it increases the voltage and creates an arc that dials back. HID lights shine brighter and last longer than filament bulbs. The main advantage of HID bulbs is that they produce lots of blue-white light. The lights have longer wavelengths which travel faster and tend to scatter less yellow glow (halogen). In summary, these bulbs produce brighter light and can enhance safety when driving on the road at night. But these car headlights types also have a few disadvantages. First off, they take several seconds before they spark, warm up and burn in full brightness. In short, they come on quite slowly and do not flash on and off quickly. And since they produce large amounts of blue-white light, they can irritate other drivers on the road. These bulbs are a bit costlier than standard halogen bulbs and replacing them is quite complex. The good thing is that cars using HID lights can also use Halogen bulbs, especially for the passing light or high beam. Sometimes a car can have a combination of both HID and Halogen lights. For starters, LED simply means Light Emitting Diode. Headlights using LED bulbs are increasingly becoming popular among car users for a number of reasons. Firstly, LED bulbs consume much less power than HID or Halogen bulbs and last longer. For this reason, LED technology is gaining acceptance among the masses and it's being used in headlights, indicators, and taillights. But it's important to note that LED technology is relatively new compared to the aforementioned alternatives. For instance, low or high beam LED headlights are currently being used on hybrid and high-end cars. However, as LED technology becomes widely popular, there's no reason why most cars wo not be using this technology. Some of the common uses of LED technology include brake lights, blinkers, fog lights, etc. The good thing about LED bulbs is that they last for a very long time so you wo not have to replace them frequently. Pssssst! Take a look at our best type of Headlights that our customers pick; While you can retrofit or convert your regular filament bulbs to work with LED technology, there's one major problem. Since LED lights have low power consumption, they can set off warning lights on the dash and may cause a false alarm that your car is not working. One solution for this problem is to get CANbus LED headlights fitted with tiny resistors that increase power usage in regular bulbs. In old car models, LED headlights may not flash the way they should without the added resistor or blink relay/state flasher installation. All in all, LED headlights offer much better lighting than the other two alternatives above. However, although we think they are the best type of headlights around, they are a little bit more expensive. When shopping for the best type of headlights, it's essential to know the different headlight types out there. Ultimately, the type of car you own will have a major influence on what headlights you use. So now when you ask yourself, what kind of headlights do I have, we would like you to say LED headlights!

3. What is the thought process behind extremely large trucks with obnoxious LED headlights?

The thought process was something like "let's haul as much stuff per trip as possible and lets put big bright headlights on our big truck so our driver will be able to see where he or she is going."

Is the Traditional Energy-saving Lamp Regulator Used for LED Circuit? Detailed Analysis of 11 Defect
Is the Traditional Energy-saving Lamp Regulator Used for LED Circuit? Detailed Analysis of 11 Defect
Can the controller of traditional energy-saving lamp act on LED circuit? There are many options for buying LED bulbs, but compatible led dimmers are difficult to choose. Many users will confidently say that it is OK to use the dimmer of traditional incandescent lamps. Now the most commonly seen on the market is thyristor dimmer, which is divided into DC and ac. it is very easy to use in incandescent lamps. After selecting the LED lamp with appropriate color temperature, lumen grade and beam angle, the dimming requirements are met. Different from the random dimming method of ordinary incandescent lamps, dimming LED bulbs with thyristors may be successful, but many problems will occur in most cases.Four conditions:The most common problem is that there is a buzzing beep or a strong stroboscopic. Ordinary incandescent lamps only need to adjust the voltage to adjust the light and shade, but it may not work for LED lamps. We have done experiments and the following four situations have occurred:1. It can't be opened at all. It doesn't light up at all!2. It can only be on at 100% illumination.3. It can work normally, but the buzzing sound is very loud.4. Stroboscopic occurs when it is adjusted to a certain brightness.Dimming principle:During the test, sometimes the LED can be used normally after it is dimmed to a certain limit. We judge that the reason why it doesn't light up is that the applied voltage of the dimmer is too small to reach the required voltage. The internal circuit of LED is much more complex than that of incandescent lamp. The real led dimmer is not only regulating voltage, but also has three principles:1. Wave width control dimming: digitize the square wave of the power supply and control the duty cycle of the square wave, so as to control the current.2. Constant current power supply regulation: the current can be easily adjusted by analog linear technology.3. Grouping control: group multiple LEDs and control them with a simple grouping device.Note the strobe:The reasons for the most stroboscopic cases are as follows: the adjustable resistor itself is not a very reliable component. Often, due to the entry of dust or the lax manufacturing process, there will be an instant jump fault when operating the adjustable resistor, and the light source will flash. Therefore, we need high-quality adjustable resistance, or use linear technology to regulate current rather than voltage. In fact, the internal driving function of LED itself can easily adjust the brightness and darkness, but most LED manufacturers remove this function to save costs. Whether the LED lamp can be dimmed is usually marked on the box. If there is no mark on the box, please use the dimming function with caution or use a special LED dimmer.Dimming will reduce life:A reminder is that dimming can easily reduce the life of the bulb. Why? Simply take a dimming method: we divide one second into 1000 parts, each part is 1 millisecond, and then make the LED light work for 7 milliseconds and turn off for 3 milliseconds through the control chip. In this way, it only works for 0.7 seconds in one second. However, due to the fast flashing interval, we can't feel its brightness flickering with our naked eyes, and we will only feel that its brightness has darkened, which is 0.7 times the original, This achieves the effect of dimming. Similarly, we can achieve 50% brightness, 32% brightness and any brightness. Blink in this way, it's strange not to break early! In order to avoid various problems, try not to use the physical dimming method for the smart bulb. Take out the mobile phone and open the app to adjust the light and shade. In fact, I still like to use the way of grouping device to control the brightness, which is simple, safe and easy to use. It can be easily done by touching the key switch or independent grouping switch. It is not necessary to fine tune the brightness from 0 to 100% perfectly in the home. It is OK to realize several levels of brightness adjustment, which can fully meet the needs.Analysis and retrieval of 11 disadvantages of LED wick:Compared with traditional incandescent lamps, led filament lamps have higher requirements for packaging. It is reported that at present, led filament lamps have very strict requirements for filament working voltage design, filament working current design, LED chip area and power, LED chip luminous angle, pin design, glass bulb sealing technology, etc. it can be seen that the manufacturing process of LED filament lamps is very complex, and there are certain requirements for the financial strength, supporting facilities and technology of manufacturers. In the production process, due to different processes, the requirements for materials are also different. In addition, in production, many equipment need to be transformed according to the performance characteristics of LED filament lamps, which also makes the manufacturers of relevant materials of LED filament lamps miserable. The defects in the bulb material also make the LED filament lamp easy to be damaged during transportation. The complex process and low yield make the LED filament lamp unable to obtain high praise from manufacturers and consumers.1. Difficult process, poor heat dissipation and easy damageAlthough led filament lamps have attracted much attention in the domestic market in the past two years, at present, the problems existing in the production of LED filament lamps can not be ignored: the manufacturing process is difficult, several different processes need to be integrated, and the yield is low; More than 8W led filament lamps are prone to heat dissipation problems; It is easy to be broken and damaged in the process of production and use.2. Structure, performance and price to be improvedDue to the relatively late entry of LED filament lamps into the market, the market-related sharp bubbles, tail bubbles and spherical bulbs are mainly "patch type". In addition, the filament lamps that entered the market in the early stage are far from consumers' expectations in terms of structure, performance and price, which makes consumers have some misunderstandings about led filament lamps. With the breakthrough of key technologies, the maturity of packaging technology and the improvement of bubble sealing technology, the luminous efficiency, finger display, service life and cost of LED filament lamps will be improved to a certain extent. At present, the LED filament lamp needs to be improved in too many places. It is like a newborn "premature baby". It is not very mature in all aspects, with high cost, complex production process and low production capacity. Therefore, we should improve the raw materials, led beads and manufacturing process in the future, so as to improve the production capacity of LED filament lamps, reduce losses and improve delivery efficiency.3. Low power and poor heat dissipation are obstaclesAffected by the production process, there are many problems in LED filament lamps, such as high cost and high damage rate during transportation due to the defects of bulb material. In addition, the heat dissipation of high wattage led filament lamps has also become an obstacle for LED filament lamps to enter ordinary people's homes.Problem 2: high priceAccording to the market survey, the average retail price of a 3W led filament lamp is about 28-30 yuan, which is much higher than that of LED bulb lamps and other lighting products with the same power, and several times higher than that of LED incandescent lamps with the same power. Therefore, many consumers are scared away by the price of LED filament lamps. At this stage, the market share of LED filament lamps is less than 10%. Nowadays, as a characteristic product, led filament lamp restores the luminous feeling of traditional tungsten filament lamp and is loved by many consumers. However, the high cost, low light efficiency and small application range of LED filament lamps are also the problems that lighting manufacturers must face and look directly at in the next stage.1. Supporting materials increase product costThe market prospect of LED filament lamp is very bright, but there are difficulties in the promotion of LED filament lamp at this stage, mainly due to its high cost and the lack of large wattage, which makes the application of LED filament lamp limited to the flower lamp market. In addition, the matching of raw materials also increases the cost, because there is no standard in the specification and shape of filament lamp, and its market volume is small, As a result, the supporting materials are basically customized, and the manufacturing cost remains high.2. The cost of LED filament is too highAmong all parts of LED filament lamp, the highest cost is led filament, mainly because of its complex production process and high cutting cost; The production efficiency is not high and the degree of automation is low, resulting in the cost. At present, the cost of 3-6w filament bulb can be controlled below 15 yuan, of which the cost of LED filament accounts for more than half.3. The packaging of LED filament lamp is exquisiteThe packaging of LED filament lamps is more exquisite. The light effects encapsulated by each enterprise are different. Led filament lamps still have certain limitations in power and heat dissipation, resulting in higher prices than ordinary LED light sources.Problem 3: small marketAt this stage, the power of the best-selling led filament lamp in the market is basically less than 10W, which shows that at this stage, the LED filament lamp is technically trapped in the problem of heat dissipation and can not achieve high power. It also shows that it can only cover a small section of the whole lighting product line and can not be widely promoted. Even if it plays the "nostalgic" brand, the LED filament lamp market is only a small market, It can't become the mainstream for the time being.1. Low consumer acceptanceWith the shrinking incandescent lamp and energy-saving lamp market, LED lighting products are slowly recognized by end consumers. However, at present, the market of LED filament lamps is still very limited. Due to the limited application and power of LED filament lamps, the acceptance of LED filament lamps by end consumers is not very high.In addition, consumers do not know enough about led filament lamps. Many people think it is just an improvement of ordinary incandescent lamps.2. The main demand comes from the projectAs LED filament lamps are mainly used in flower lamps, and their main demand comes from engineering lighting, general dealers will not mainly promote LED filament lamps. Even if a few businesses sell LED filament lamps, they won't have too much inventory.Problem 4: difficult to promoteEntering the terminal market, we can find that the LED filament lamp is not as hot as expected for two reasons:1、 Many stores do not promote filament lamps as key products, and consumers' awareness and acceptance of filament lamps are not high;2、 Compared with LED light source products such as bulb and sharp bulb, led filament lamp products have no qualitative change. On the contrary, the price is relatively high and it is difficult to go. Let alone replace the market position of LED bulb, energy-saving lamp and other products. Therefore, at present, the market advantage of LED filament lamp is not very obvious, and the market is basically waiting and trying. At present, the difficulty of pushing led filament lamps in the terminal market lies in:1、 Poor integration between traditional bubble sealing industry and LED packaging industry (concept and process integration);2、 It is not easy to reverse the concept of end consumers;3、 The acceptance of LED filament lamp products by society and government is not clear. In addition, the price of LED filament lamp is high, and consumers have not really distinguished the difference between LED filament lamp and incandescent lamp, which leads to the difficulty of LED filament lamp market promotion.1. Merchants are not active in promotionAt present, if led filament lamps want to achieve good performance in the market, they also need to strengthen publicity and innovation. The development of LED industry is increasingly fierce, and industry standards have been issued one after another, which has exacerbated the market development resistance of LED filament lamps. Especially at this stage, many consumers do not understand led filament lamps, and merchants are not active enough in promoting led filament lamps. Even most merchants are not very optimistic about their development prospects. In actual sales, customers usually see or ask, Businesses will push this product.2. High price makes promotion difficultAt present, it is difficult to promote LED filament lamps in the market. Because consumers do not know much about led filament lamps, the probability of purchase is very small. In addition, due to the impact of e-commerce, the transaction rate of LED in physical stores is lower. Some consumers pay more attention to the price when purchasing products. Therefore, there is still a long way to go for LED filament lamps to enter the families of ordinary consumers.3. Lack of new selling points of LED filament lampsAt present, led filament lamp is in the primary stage of promotion, and very few people know its advantages because of the appearance and original quality of the product

Why would you want to do that??? There are led tailights and maker lights. Those plug in replacements or are complete replacement fixtures. I do not believe led headlights are street legal. If they even make such a thing, they would be for show cars, as led lights do not project anywhere near the distance of halogen, xenon charged nor H.I.D. headlights. You are better off with Sylvania Silverstar xenon charged upgrade bulbs, or an aftermarket H.I.D. system. What is the lifespan of led tail lights and led headlights? The short answer is "decades," provided the heat sinks are designed correctly and are not too cheap. The most common failure mode for LED automotive lighting is heat. A lot of the cheap LED kits use generic aluminum heat sinks, and those tend to shorten lifespans considerably. However, the LED itself should last at least as long as a vehicle does, and probably a few years longer if correctly designed.Additionally, not that you asked, but LED lights "fire" a 200ms (or so) faster than existing bulbs, which can make quite a difference when we are talking about brake light activation time at highway speeds. Finally, the fuel economy improvement attributable to LED lighting is estimated at 1-3% - that goes a long way towards justifying their higher initial cost, in addition to the longevity and safety advantages. If you are buying an LED light, you want copper heat sinks and/or you want to buy from a very reputable brand. What is the lifespan of led tail lights and led headlights? What is the lifespan of led tail lights and led headlights ?Why do car manufacturers use led headlights, led signals in front & possibly on the mirrors but still use halogen signals, brake, & reverse lights in the rear? 2020 Beijing Auto Show's 14 Most Interesting Cars and Concepts
What do the Detroit, Geneva, Los Angeles, New York, and Paris auto shows all have in common? They were canceled this year. For several months, a significant portion of automotive production and culture ground to a halt. But the lights are going green in some parts of the world. In China, the Beijing auto show actually happened and saw the debuts of a lot of luxury cars and some knockoffs. Electric vehicles were the center of this year's show. It appears China wants long-range luxury SUVs, too. Here's the interesting stuff from the 2020 Beijing auto show. There's been a ton of news recently about Chevy's future all-electric vehicles and GM's revival of the Hummer name for a GMC Hummer EV pickup and SUV. Meanwhile, a 250-mile-range Chevrolet Menlo is already available in China. It's larger than the Chevy Bolt EV with more cargo space and a cheaper starting price, but it's only available in China. Foton, known for its commercial semi-trucks and farm equipment, wants to bring full-size pickups to the China market. It's no surprise they've made their G9 look almost identical to America's best-selling vehicle, the 13th-generation Ford F-150. Unlike the F-series. however, the G9 will likely be offered with three powertrains that include a Cummins diesel, a China-sourced 2.0-liter turbo-diesel, and Isuzu's 2.5-liter turbo-diesel. No, it's not a Lincoln. Seriously. We promise. It's the new electric SUV from China's oldest automaker, Hongqi. The E-HS9 is said to be the most expensive new car in China, but it's the size of suburban America. The dual-motor EV looks to be roughly the same size as the Mercedes-Benz GLS, but that face reminds us of a late-Victorian heat radiator. In 1958, Chevy's C1 Corvette headlights doubled and it received a power bump to 290 horsepower from its fuel-injected V-8. That familiar look lives on in China as a plug-in hybrid coupe. The Hongsang Dolphin SS uses an electric motor and a turbocharged 1.5-liter gasoline engine. It also has four-wheel disc brakes, a feature Corvettes did not get until 1965. The Dolphin SS is available in eight different metallic colors and is priced at the equivalent of $86,000. Neta is hoping to deliver on its giant promises of being able to crush Tesla's battery range with the Eureka 03 concept. The Eureka is designed to deliver almost 500 miles of electric range, but considering the concept shown here is still missing a full interior, we take that as more a goal than a promise. It's certainly a futuristic look, especially with its digital side mirrors and wide shelf of LED headlights. Roughly the same size as the Fiat 500X, the Ora GT is a compact EV with Mini Cooper looks. Several Ora were on display at the show, but the GT uses red trim highlights in the style of a Volkswagen Golf GTI or Hyundai Veloster N, and racing stripes to make it appear sporty. It looks like a car still in the making, but the Polestar Precept is almost ready for its real-world debut. Polestar announced it would build a new plant to begin production in September 2020, but have been quiet about range and cost of the full-size luxury sedan EV. Voyah is the luxury EV brand dreamed up by Chinese automaker Dongfeng Motor. This is the company's second concept, dubbed the iFree, and it looks to be big enough for three rows of seating. No details on range, pricing, or interior design are out yet, but the iFree is one of the few cars at the Beijing auto show that does not look like a generic replica of another car that already exists. Because the LED is known as high brightness, color, variety, low power consumption, long life, LED is widely used in the automotive sector Feature 1 reliability and service life (2) Efficiency / lumens per watt Compared with standard incandescent, LED consuming per unit of electrical energy can produce more light output. However, when compared with the halogen lamp, the advantage of output of the LED light is not obvious. The latest LED has the outstanding lumens per watt with , but some values are obtained under the optimized conditions, and usually not obtained at the highest output conditions . In general, when the LED current increases, the light output does not increase linearly. Therefore, even if the LED output is 1x lumens at 0.5A current, it dose not output 2x lumens at 1.0A current . 3. Response speed Take the brake lights and direction indicator for example, assume that a vehicle is of 125 km / h speed , that is 35 m / s, the hot start time of the incandescent is about 250 milliseconds, and of the LED that rapidly response can send brake warning ahead of about 8 meters , thus effectively avoiding cars collided,so do the Indicator. 4 directional Another key feature is the light way of the LED, what is different from the incandescent lamps that the LED emitting the light only through a surface which is good for the headlights and aeronautical charts application , but may not be suitable for the compartment lighting other lighting. First, if you get him an "HID conversion kit" you are basically handing him a boat load of fix it tickets for illegal lights. There is no such thing as a legal HID conversion kit because the stock headlight housings are not made for HID lights, which have to be precisely focused and require a cutoff to eliminate/limit glare for oncoming drivers. The standard housing scatters light everywhere, and you can not do that legally with HID bulbs. You would require a full retrofit, which is much harder and requires cutting and gluing. DRLs. DRLs are not mandated in the U.S., but they are mandated in Canada and through much of Europe. It is far simpler to produce a car that has DRLs everywhere than, say, a car that has DRLs in Canada and a car that does not in the U. S. And there are many advantages to LEDs as DRLs, chief among them being reliability: using the normal headlights or turn signals as DRLs burns them out much faster, using a dedicated halogen bulb means lots more space required in the headlight and another two bulbs to replace, but using LEDs has none of these disadvantages, as they are unlikely to ever stop working.2. Consumer preference. People like the way they look. And let's be realistic, so much of car buying comes down to intangibles that if market research says people like LEDs, all the cars that are in a price bracket where LEDs make sense will get LEDs.3. Government regulation. Little-known fact: buried in the most recent CAFE (Corporate Average Fuel Economy) regulations -- which mandate an entirely unreasonable fleet average, given the preferences of American consumers towards big, heavy, powerful cars -- is a section that allows manufacturers to substitute "green technologies" for actual fuel economy increases. LEDs are one of these "green technologies." Considering the fact that manufacturers stand to pay a hefty monetary penalty if they do not meet the standards, and that they wo not meet the standards through mere efficiency increases, and that LEDs are much less expensive than the penalty, this creates a huge incentive to add LEDs to every car on the market. Why do we need bright white LED headlights?.Is it possible I can upgrade my 1995 Camry's headlights with LED headlights? Not with LED headlights, LED's are used in torches etc. Check out the blue light headlamps, been around a few years now and are very good. It is a huge mistake to make laws that define the solution. Laws should be general so they can be implemented in better ways. Example, the US law that cars MUST be fitted with a catalytic converter. Far better for the law to specifiy maximum emissions and let the really clever people (NOT politicians!) find better, cheaper or other ways less attractive to thieves to meet the lawWhat is the difference between Hid and Led headlights?High Intesity Discharge Light Emitting Diode Use HID on a vehicleHow can I add defrosters or deicing heaters to my LED headlights?James, pleased answer the following:Are they retrofitted?Have you added ventilation holes to the Inner and outer Biel's if the existing headlightAre your headlights under the bonnet of the car or can you access them from under the wings.I had a problem with condensation, but I put a drain tube I would the headlamp outer bowl and ventilation holes at the top of the inner bowl, plus a drain hole at the bottom. You can go to sylvania.com and use their bulb guide to figure out what size you need. Then you can order from a place like superbrightleds.com.Illegal to have LED headlights?Hi, This wo not be illegal as long as the colour emitted from the LED's does not exceed 6000Kelvin (I believe), and the wattage is not higher than 60w for full beam, and 55w for main (dipped) headlights. Also the light must not be adjusted so that it dazzle other road uses. Just make sure they are classed as "Street or Road legal" before making your purchase. If they are stated as "competition use" or "off-road use" then these are usually rated over 100w and are not safe or legal on the roads.

"Dynamic Light Spot" for actively illuminating persons, the "Glare-free high beam assistant" and full-LED headlights provide even more safety at night.Munich. Outstanding innovations in the area of vehicle and safety engineering have always characterised cars from the BMW Group. With many technological leaps forward, BMW has often been the pacesetter for the entire automobile industry. The sensor system-based, environment-networked driver assistance systems from BMW ConnectedDrive such as the camera-based Speed Limit Info launched in 2008 have been the innovation drivers. Now, BMW has taken the lead once again with the vehicle's external lighting, the "Dynamic Light Spot". The "Dynamic Light Spot" is a spotlighting system that automatically directs a beam of light onto pedestrians at an early stage, thus alerting the driver. In critical situations, the safety gain for pedestrians and for the passengers in the vehicle is enormous. Another feature that BMW has presented is the "Glare-free high beam assistant". The system locates vehicles approaching from the opposite direction and vehicles ahead, and prevents glare, despite the high beam being switched on. In this manner, the high beam component is significantly increased, which also brings about a sustained improvement in safety. Another gain in safety, not to be underestimated is the new, optional full-LED headlight, now debuting in the new BMW 6 Series Coupé. The risk of a pedestrian dying or getting injured in a traffic accident is four times as high at night or at twilight than in daylight. The same applies to the passengers themselves. Accidents and, in particular, serious accidents at night are very often caused by the late recognition of persons or animals (e.g. deer) on the road. With BMW Night Vision, BMW has deployed a very effective assistance technology for driving in the dark under the umbrella of the technologies of BMW ConnectedDrive. BMW Night Vision helps the driver using a thermal imaging camera for anticipatory and safe driving at night. This support will be expanded by another BMW innovation for increasing the safety of night driving, in the form of the "BMW Dynamic Light Spot". Through targeted illumination of pedestrians on the road, the system ensures increased safety for all those involved, including the driver of the vehicle. By using "BMW Dynamic Light Spot", the driver can usually avoid a collision or at least reduce its severity. The "BMW Dynamic Light Spot" is a so-called marking light. This system uses sensors to identify potentially endangered objects in the driver's surroundings which are then illuminated in a targeted manner with a spot of light. At the same time, a beam of light projected onto the road in front of the vehicle leading to the possible collision object draws the driver's attention to that object. Thanks to early recognition of the pedestrian, the driver can either brake in time or take suitable evasive action. All cats are grey at night and visibility is very limited . Conventional low beam light allows drivers a theoretical range of vision of about 50 to 85 metres at night, which does not, however, mean that objects can be recognised at that distance. In tests, the recognisability of a darkly clad pedestrian at twilight was found to be just 29 metres. This is understandable since at greater distances, only the feet are illuminated. If the rule "drive so that you can stop within your visible range" were followed in the dark, it would not be advisable to drive even at 80 km/h since at this speed the braking distance is as much as 63 metres. Night vision assistants are good, but in future things will be even better . Today, night vision assistants like BMW Night Vision are available. They provide the driver with an image of the area in front of the vehicle so that pedestrians and animals can be seen even from distances of several hundred metres away. However, this assumes that the driver uses the Night Vision screen like the rear view mirror and casts a glance at it from time to time. The technology works like this: BMW Night Vision uses an infrared camera with a viewing angle of 24 degrees. It generates a thermal image that shows warm objects - people or animals - as bright shapes. Today, it is technically possible to identify the position of pedestrians very accurately. Once this position is known, a headlight can focus on that area and show directly where a pedestrian, who is possibly endangered, is. This system is called the Dynamic Light Spot at BMW. The big difference to other marking light assistants is that the BMW system projects a strip of light on the road to direct the attention of the driver to the hazard. The light automatically draws the attention of the driver to the possible collision and triggers an intuitive and fast reaction from him. He who sees earlier can react earlier . In general, it is assumed that a vehicle driver drives in the direction in which he is looking. This has been experienced in vehicle safety training when for example, the driver learns to take evasive action from a tight situation - he usually concentrates on the zone directly in front of the vehicle. So in vehicle safety training, when a collision is imminent, the driver is taught to focus on a free pathway or the "escape route" away from the road so that this particular direction for evasive action is within the line of vision. With Dynamic Light Spot, things are different. When an illuminated object that is beyond the braking distance is made visible to the driver, he has sufficient time to use the brakes to stop before the obstacle is reached. At the same time, Dynamic Light Spot and the beam of light on the road are switched off as soon as the vehicle is close enough for the normal lights to continue to illuminate the object. What Dynamic Light Spot from BMW does is to indicate hazards to the driver from as far away as possible and direct his attention to them. The technical components of this system are essentially highly efficient sensors and headlight systems. The sensor system recognises living creatures by their heat radiation . To be able to warn the driver of a hazard in time, a recognition distance from the hazard of about 100 metres must be ensured, regardless of the weather conditions. To achieve this, the light marking system must have a sufficiently perceptive sensor system. All the currently available night vision systems based on near infra-red require an input of 100W for illuminating the surroundings in front of the vehicle. This corresponds to an additional CO2 emission of 3 g/km, which is not acceptable in the present circumstances. The BMW Night Vision Assistant has a far greater recognition range and no additional light source is required. This is because BMW Night Vision is based upon detection of the heat radiated by objects and is additionally less susceptible to the influence of the weather. BMW Night Vision guarantees positive recognition of persons at a distance of 97 metres on average. Headlight systems: with LED Arrays the obstacle is in direct view. When, as in the case of BMW Night Vision, the vehicle is fitted with a suitable sensor system to achieve recognition of persons at an adequate distance, it has to be complemented by corresponding headlight technology to realise Dynamic Light Spot. There is a wide range of technical possibilities from pixel light headlights and Xenon and swivelling modules to the so-called LED arrays - all with specific advantages and disadvantages. At present, the light marking is achieved using a swivelling LED spotlight. This ensures that with a low energy requirement, a beam of light that is optimal for the driver is generated in a highly dynamic manner, and a pleasant light image is generated by the swivelling movement. In the case of "BMW Dynamic Light Spot", these high-power LEDs are integrated into the installation space of the fog lamps so that the remaining vehicle lighting can be conventional technology; full-LED headlights are not a system requirement. BMW is planning to include the Dynamic Light Spot functionality as a part of the special BMW Night Vision system; it is a result of the BMW ConnectedDrive innovation philosophy for its future new models. The gain in safety - for the drivers and passengers and those who could possibly be involved in a collision at night - that BMW is striving for has already been proven within the framework of system development. During BMW test drives in the development phase of Dynamic Light Spot, on average one object was highlighted and illuminated every hour. Glare-free high beam assistant - less work and more light . Driving at night or in poor visibility is far more stressful than daylight driving for most drivers. One of the reasons for this is the late and more difficult recognition of the road in dark surroundings - which is also due to the reduction of the colour perception of the eye. In addition, there are the strong bright/dark contrasts, which force the eyes to constantly adapt to brightness or darkness. In addition, especially in the case of the eyes of middle-aged people, this so-called adaptability noticeably falls with increasing age. Available Now: the high beam assistant relieves the driver . Constantly driving on high beam significantly improves recognition of the course of the road and of hazards, but it cannot be done because other drivers are blinded by the glare. The first step in solving this problem is the high beam assistant, which is already being offered by BMW as special equipment. It recognises other vehicles at an early stage and depending on the traffic situation, switches the beam to high or low automatically. A camera sensor in the interior mirror bracket registers the headlight beams of approaching vehicles from a distance of as much as approximately 1000 metres, and the taillights of other vehicles in front from about 500 metres. The assistant then automatically switches the high beam to low. As soon as other drivers are no longer in danger of being blinded by the glare, the high beam is switched on again. This automatic system and the smooth transition between high and low beam significantly relieve the driver. The high beam assistant also switches to low when the ambient light is sufficient, such as in built up, well-lit areas. Coming up: the glare-free high beam assistant from BMW. Using BMW ConnectedDrive technologies, always driving on high beam can become a reality with the glare-free high beam assistant. The system can remain switched on during the entire night drive; approaching vehicles and vehicles in front will be recognised in time and can, so to speak, be actively saved from glare or masked from the light beam. The glare-free high beam assistant also uses the camera sensor in the interior mirror bracket. But in this case, the image processing goes a step further and "recognises" the position of the other vehicle. This object recognition then controls the vehicle's own headlights, which have a mobile glare mask. The high beam is then "masked" in such a manner that approaching vehicles or vehicles in front are not dazzled. The glare-free high beam assistant from BMW recognises cars, trucks, motorcycles and even bicycles if their lights are adequate. This system sets itself apart from other similar systems offered by competitors, in among other things, that the driver's guidance in the case of oncoming traffic has priority over adapting the tunnel for the other vehicles. As a result, the driver of a BMW with the glare-free high beam assistant always enjoys the greatest possible high beam illumination available, without dazzling other drivers. The benefits of the glare-free high beam assistant . Night test drives by BMW have shown that with the glare-free high beam assistant, a far more intensive use of the high beam is possible. This results in better perception of hazardous situations. At the same time, the significantly greater range of the lights, even with approaching vehicles or vehicles ahead, makes it easier for the driver to follow the road. Less steering movements and the increased feeling of safety thus provide relief to the driver at night. Since the assistant is entirely automatically controlled, the driver no longer needs to manually switch between high and low beam, which results in less fatigue. Night driving in a BMW is thus safer and less stressful. Adaptive full-LED headlights in the new BMW 6 Series Coupé . The new BMW 6 Series Coupé already has bi-xenon headlights as standard equipment. These dual round headlights give the sporting, elegant coupé the brand characteristic front look. As an enhanced feature, the BMW 6 Series Coupé can be ordered with adaptive LED headlights. They reinforce the characteristically concentrated look of the vehicle and are, in fact, the most highly-developed vehicle lights currently available. BMW uses the full-LED headlights as adaptive LED headlights in the BMW 6 Series Coupé, i.e. all of the illumination functionality is realised using LEDs. BMW attaches a great deal of importance to the homogeneity of the lighting modes low beam and daytime running beam. The goal of the development was optimally balanced light distribution, meeting the requirements for directing the attention of the driver, in conjunction with an aesthetic, typical BMW headlight design. The dual round icon has LED light rings as parking lights and the daytime driving light. These light rings are flattened at the bottom, dominated by an LED accentuating light at the top and for the first time have been designed in the form of a three-dimensional body. This component accentuates the typical appearance of the brand both in the daytime mode as well as the night design. For the first time, a BMW at night is now recognisable by its 4-eye front, both on low beam and high beam, the same look familiar from the daytime driving mode. This means that the low beam light is generated in the upper half and the high beam in the lower half of all of the four light rings. The bright white light of the adaptive LED headlights in the BMW 6 Series Coupé effects a strong and harmonious illumination of the road. Particularly easy on the eye: the LED light is considerably closer to daylight than the light from halogen or xenon headlights. Therefore, reflective objects appear with greater contrast and can be recognised earlier. The adaptive LED headlights are controlled as a function of the speed, the steering angle and the yaw rate. The swivelling angle of the headlights thus automatically adjusts itself to the course of the bend. In addition, the cornering light is generated with another LED light source in the headlight housing, which, at speeds up to 70 km/h, ensures a far better lighting in front of and alongside the vehicle in the direction of exit. The LED technology is also used for the turn indicator lights. These LED turn signals consists of eight LED units each arranged in a row below the light rings. Apart from better visibility in darkness, the adaptive LED headlights also significantly improve the signalling action of the lights.

Diodes were the first semiconductor electronic devices. The discovery of crystals' rectifying abilities was made by German physicist Ferdinand Braun in 1874. The first semiconductor diodes, called cat's whisker diodes, developed around 1906, were made of mineral crystals such as galena. Today most diodes are made of silicon, but other semiconductors such as selenium or germanium are sometimes used. A semiconductor diode, the most common type today, is a crystalline piece of semiconductor material with a p-n junction connected to two electrical terminals. A vacuum tube diode has two electrodes, a plate (anode) and a heated cathode. The most common function of a diode is to allow an electric current to pass in one direction (called the diode's forward direction), while blocking current in the opposite direction (the reverse direction). Thus, the diode can be viewed as an electronic version of a check valve. This unidirectional behavior is called rectification, and is used to convert alternating current to direct current, including extraction of modulation from radio signals in radio receivers-these diodes are forms of rectifiers. HID lights tend to be brighter, but they can reflect light back at you in foggy conditions and blind other drivers. In addition, HID lights experience a delay before they turn on. The best LED headlights typically do not affect your vision and are less likely to blind other motorists as long as they are correctly aligned. These CCFL halo LED headlights Illegal?Any change from factory specifications is technically not legal. I have a 2014 Honda Accord LX?As far as I am aware none of those LED kits are road legal as they do not comply with vehicle lighting standards, or at least they are not certified to (and probably do not ). This makes them dangerous as they are likely to dazzle oncoming drivers. A LED lamp needs a totally different light fitting and reflector to cast light in the right pattern. This is fine of the car maker has designed, tested and certified their standard LEDs for a particular vehicle. I am gonna try to make a splitter for the high beams but with a peanut bulb to see if the draw will be enough to dim both led DRL's.This had a similar effect for my 04 neon srt4 which the fog lights were the DRL's. But when the hid kit was put in it ran off one plug with a relay for main power the low beams was the DRL's. I plugged in a harness with a peanut bulb on the unused headlight plug and the low beams turned off and the fog lights turned on as its supposed to for DRL's. The peanut bulb took the necessary power to activate the DRL mode, as did the halogen high beam for my 09 Impreza. Hopefully this will help others if they want to give it a try. With the purpose of aftermarket sales, you can find LED headlights in a variety of different colours as well as the ability to stick them onto a relatively new car; but unfortunately I have seen some people do it on to a 12 to 20 year old vehicle during the time when the car was first released LED technology did not exist; and just for me makes the entire car look crap. Just as those that stick neon lights at the bottom of their cars just to stand out during the night. LED technology is getting better every year; just as most consumers would have them in their houses as I do; they take longer to generate their full lighting potential and consume less power in the process. Not like regular halogen light bulbs other other types that with a flick of a switch they are bright instantly; LED lights look like they are dimmed to their lowest setting and slowly will get brighter. LED also lasts longer and is a cheaper option to Xenon headlamps which are more expensive to replace because they use a gas to emit light and the entire enclosure is sealed. For some cars that are sold new or ex demo; some I would say may be ok in terms of how they look; but using them as an aftermarket choice... really depends on the individual, some may look good and others just simply are idiots.

IT'S an ongoing debate amongstwomen far and wide: is it really worth splurging on luxury make-up?With the news this week thatone in three women are putting make-up ahead of household bills, we have brought in make-up artist Sophie Fleur Thorp to partake in a blind testso that we canreach some kind of a conclusion...Cheap ThrillsMiss Sporty Mission Correction Multi-Action Foundation in Medium, £2.99MUA Blusher in Cupcake, £1Collection Velvet Kiss Moisturising Lip Cream in Mulberry, £2.99MUA Intense Glitter Eyeliner in Starry Night, £1Collection Extreme Coloured Lengthening Mascara in Black, £2.99Total: £10.97The Verdict“The three-in-one foundation concealer is quite disappointing. The texture is too thick, yet it doesn’t conceal imperfections and, instead of highlighting the skin, it leaves it looking matte. I struggled to build this up to hide problem areas without it looking caked on, so I’d recommend using a separate product to blur or hide any blemishes. The mascara is OK, although it doesn’t offer anything special and needs to be layered up to really get the volume and length I desire. The real winners are the liquid lipstick – it doesn’t budge and the pigments are vibrant – and the blusher, which delivers intense colour with a subtle shimmer. The eyeliner is also great. For a kohl pencil, it went on smoothly, with little pressure or pulling, and I was able to build it up and blend it out to create a glittery, smoky eye.”Mid-range MagicMax Factor Miracle Match Foundation Blur & Nourish in Caramel, £12.99Gosh Natural Blush in Electric Pink, £7.99Sleek Makeup Cleopatra’s Kiss Highlighting Palette, £9.99Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate Moss in 005, £4.99Soap & Glory Supercat Easy Precision Black Ink Eyeliner, £6Bourjois Volume Reveal Mascara in Radiant Black, £9.99Total: £51.95The Verdict“I love that I can build up the foundation to disguise imperfections without needing a separate concealer. And the highlighting palette is going straight into my kit! The cream and powder combo is great, as you can mix them together to intensify the glow, plus it also doubles up as a shimmery eyeshadow. The mascara gave my lashes amazing volume and comes with a handy mirror – great for on the go. The lipstick is also impressive as it has the perfect balance of strong pigments and moisture, making it last all day. I wasn’t keen on the eyeliner, though. It took ages to dry, and left smudges and an imprint every time I blinked.”Super SplurgeYSL Touche Éclat Le Teint in BD60, £32.50Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer in Medium Neutral, £17.50Estée Lauder Pure Colour Envy Sculpting Blush in Plush Petal, £29Marc Jacobs Kiss Pop Lip Colour Stick in Headliner, £24Nars Unrestricted Matte Eyeliner Stylo in Black, £21Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Lashes Mascara in Black Vinyl, £25Total: £149The Verdict“Although this foundation didn’t make the same promises of concealing and highlighting as the other two did, it offered both and then some.My skin felt smooth, hydrated and illuminated – and there was little need for concealer. The blush palette offers a gradient of colour, meaning that you can both highlight and blush in one sweep. However, the shade was too light and blurred into the highlighter, so didn’t give the result I wanted. I wasn’t keen on the bullet shape of the lipstick – I prefer a hard edge, so you can get a clean line along your pout. The eyeliner went on well and dried immediately, and I was blown away by the mascara! After two swipes, I had full lashes without any hard work or layering.”Sophie’s best of the bunch YSL Touche Éclat Le Teint in BD60, £32.50Sleek Makeup Cleopatra’s Kiss Highlighting Palette, £9.99Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick by Kate Moss in 005, £4.99MUA Intense Glitter Eyeliner in Starry Night, £1Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Lashes Mascara in Black Vinyl, £25 The Overall Verdict“This test goes to show that you can mix and match high-end and high-street brands to create the perfect make-up bag – for your pocket and your face!”Now that you've got your dream kit sorted, try these tips to help you get your face ready in just fives minutes.Stockists: Bourjois (Boots.com), Charlotte Tilbury (Selfridges.com), Collection (Superdrug.com), Estée Lauder (Selfridges.com), Gosh (Superdrug.com), Marc Jacobs (Harrods.com), Max Factor (Boots.com), Miss Sporty (Superdrug.com), MUA (Superdrug.com), Mars (Narscosmetics.co.uk), Rimmel London (Boots.com), Sleek Makeup (Sleekmakeup.com), Soap & Glory (Boots.com), Urban Decay (Debenhams.com), YSL (Yslbeauty.co.uk)

How Does Money Laundering Work?
How Does Money Laundering Work?
How does money laundering work? Here's how it works: The problem with money generated from crime- especially large scale organised crime- is that you need to have some explanation as to where the money is coming from, otherwise you will raise suspicion with the authorities. Money laundering is the process of disguising this illegally obtained money as legitimate profits, which you can then use without attracting attention. The most common way to do this is for criminals to own some kind of legitimate business, normally called a "front". They can then disguise their illegal money as profits obtained by this business. For example, suppose you owned a nightclub and charged entry to get in. In a typical night, perhaps you get 200 patrons. A money launderer might instead record that they had 400 patrons per night, and enter their illegally obtained money as entry fees for the 200 fake customers. They can now say they obtained the money legitimately as part of their business. Obviously, this is entirely illegal, and many organised criminals are brought down by money laundering and related charges, rather than for their other crimes. As such, you have to be very careful when doing. Good money-laundering operations use fronts that do not use up too many physical resources, so it's hard to confirm how much of its business is legit.— — — — — —Money laundering: how banks stay one step ahead of criminal activityMoney laundering is a technique used by criminals-from mobsters, drug traffickers, terrorists, to corrupt politicians-in order to cover their financial tracks after illegally obtaining money. It's well-known that money laundering can often involve foreign banks and legitimate businesses-so how do banks actively prevent money laundering from happening? The answer? Anti-money laundering. Anti-money laundering is a way for banks and other financial institutions to detect suspicious activity. By doing so, they help prevent criminal profits from becoming camouflaged and integrated into the financial system. Here's the lowdown on the techniques banks use to fight back against criminal financial activity. Money laundering is a process that disguises the source of criminal money in order to make it appear legal. Since 1990, money laundering itself has been a crime-and it's easy to see why. Money laundering is big business, with an estimated €740 billion to €2 trillion laundered each year. That's an eye-watering 2% to 5% of the global economy. In the EU alone, €197.2 billion is laundered each year. Profits gained from criminal activity is often known as "dirty" money, because it links directly to the crime and can be traced. In particular, lugging around physical cash-think dodgy deals and briefcases filled with bank notes-is far from logistical. Criminals need to "clean" the money, so that it can appear legal and be used for investments without fear of being caught. That's what money laundering is-"washing" dirty money to make it clean. Money laundering typically follows a basic three-step process. The first step is placement-this is the point where dirty money first enters the financial system. Layering then hides the source of the money using various bookkeeping tricks. And once the source of the money has been successfully disguised, comes the last step-integration, when clean money can be withdrawn or invested. Money laundering techniques vary in complexity. The most common method is to process dirty money through another cash-based business. Many criminal organizations own multiple "front organizations," from restaurants to casinos. Legitimate profits from these businesses mix with criminal money, hiding the source. Breaking Bad fans will remember Walter White purchasing the A1A Car Wash to launder the money that he made from his drug business. Another technique is called structuring, which is the act of dividing large sums of money into smaller amounts and spreading them across multiple accounts. Anti-money laundering policy in the EU means that transactions of €10,000 and higher are investigated. Structuring bypasses this by depositing multiple smaller amounts that appear less suspicious. Other techniques used by money launderers include: • None Currency exchanges where dirty money is exchanged by foreign currency providers. The provider may be unaware of the money's origin, or that the cash-based business is a front organization. • None Real estate purchases allow criminals to transform their money into houses and business property, which can later be sold. • None The art industry has also been targeted for money laundering, due to its levels of secrecy and the potential for high-value items. In 1989, the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) was created to combat money laundering. The FATF organization sets the framework for anti-money laundering (AML) policies, and supervises countries to make sure that they comply. Individual countries also have their own supervisory schemes that oversee national institutions. Globally, the UN, World Bank and International Monetary Fund all have AML schemes in place. Anti-money laundering is a framework for putting best practices into action in order to detect suspicious activity. The easier it is for criminals to spend illegal money undetected, the more likely they are to commit crimes in the future. As a result, AML regulations make "obligated entities" be aware of red flags to watch out for, and makes sure that such institutions proactively monitor their clients' activities. But who exactly are the "obligated entities?" Obligated entities refers to institutions that encounter financial transactions, which could be targeted by money launderers. These include banks, payment processors, and gaming or gambling businesses. In the EU, the European Banking Authority sets guidelines and regulations on supervision. Anti-money laundering supervisors then monitor each individual institution to see how effectively they carry out their AML tasks. Institutions have to comply with customer due diligence. The Anti-Money Laundering Directive (AMLD) is a EU-wide law that provides a framework for institutions across Europe. Transactions between "high risk" countries and transaction amounts of €10,000 or more are carefully monitored. Suspicious activity is then reported. As the foundation of the financial system, banks need a sharp eye to spot suspicious behavior. Like all institutions, banking AML policies are shaped by the framework set by the FATF. Frontline employees are trained in anti-money laundering techniques and are legally required to report suspicious activity. Banks may hire employees whose purpose is to boost anti-money laundering practices. These security experts are known as AML compliance officers. In addition, AML banking is supported by three key factors: identity checks, AML holding periods, and AML transaction monitoring software. Specific institutions, such as banks, are required to follow Know Your Customer (KYC) processes. These are the steps that banks must take to verify the identity of their customers. Although anti-money laundering policies provide the framework, individual banks are responsible for their own customers, and it's their responsibility to flag high risk transactions. So what do banks verify? Know Your Customer policies require banks to verify the customer's name, date of birth, address, and occasionally additional information, such as occupation. Banks typically ask customers to verify their identity with ID documents when opening an account. More recently, banks are using biometric identification, such as face or voice recognition, and fingerprint scans. Another tactic to help prevent money laundering is the AML holding period. This is a policy where deposits must stay in an account for a minimum of five trading days. Slowing down the process assists with anti-money laundering measures, and allows more time for risk assessments to take place. Many banks have millions of customers, and oversee millions of transactions. With such a high volume, it's impossible to manually monitor every single transaction. That's where AML transaction monitoring software comes in-this technology allows banks and other financial institutions to monitor transactions on a daily or real-time basis. Such software combines different sources of information, such as the account holder's history, risk-assessment, and the details of individual transactions such as the total sum of the money, countries involved, and the nature of purchase. Transactions can include cash deposits, wire transfers, and withdrawals. When a transaction is deemed to be high risk, it's flagged by the system as suspicious activity.
