You will do a lot of swaps. Especially if the bookcase is tightly packed, this could make your life miserable when books don't fit where they need to go.You will need to keep a bunch of things in memory and will probably need to keep track of things with paper. And, you will inevitably make mistakes that could be costly.
The time it will take will be worse than proportional to the size of your bookcase. Additionally, the time it will take is unpredictable due to the nature of quicksort. What if I told you there is way to do it that fixes all these problems! Here is the algorithm I would use.
Grab a computer/tablet/phone and some sticky notes and a pen. With the sticky notes, label each book by index: 1 2 3 4 ...Write down the book title followed by the index. No need to write the full title, just enough to be reasonably accurately alphabetized. It will look something like this:Hitchhikers guide 1Clifford the 2Algorithms for 3...5. Paste this into something on the internet that will sort it or write your own code.6. Remove all the books from the bookshelf. Don't scramble them too badly or you won't be able to find a given index.
7. One by one, put the correct index onto the bookshelf according to the sorted text.I don't know for sure but this algorithm is probably a lot faster than quicksort for a decent sized collection.Happy sorting!
Related QuestionsCan you put together a 14 song collection of solo Beatles songs that feature two or more Beatles?
This is a fascinating question that requires some digging.Unfortunately, most of the best solo songs are out of the question. Immediately after The Beatles, Paul was left completely alone as John, George, and Ringo occasionally met up with each other to record. Soon, it was just John and Ringo. By 1975, each Beatle was basically left on their own. That being said, there are a lot of great solo songs that feature two or more Beatles. If I needed to put 14 on an album, here's how I would place them:Side 1:It Don't Come Easy - Starr Harrison (1971)Hold On - Lennon Starr (1970)Take It Away - McCartney Starr (1982)I'm The Greatest - Starr Lennon Harrison (1973)I Found Out - Lennon Starr (1970)My Sweet Lord - Harrison Starr (1970)Remember - Lennon Starr (1970)Side 2:Ballroom Dancing - McCartney Starr (1982)Photograph - Starr Harrison (1973)Gimme Some Truth - Lennon Harrison (1971)Wanderlust - McCartney Starr (1982)All Those Years Ago - Harrison McCartney Starr (1981)All Things Must Pass - Harrison Starr (1970)Grow Old With Me - Starr McCartney Lennon (2019)It's very Ringo-centric, because he was sort of the one link that kept the other three Beatles from completely isolating themselves with session musicians and themselves.
Ultimately, my choices were meant to tell a story of the post-Beatles experience, particularly with the last three songs closing the album out. It starts out with scrappy songs that have a sense of each trying to decide what a post-Beatles life looks like. Then, on side two, it goes to a more retrospective and steady tone. At the end, it's a group of songs that show nostalgia for what once was, including the 2019 cover of John Lennon's unfinished "Grow Old With Me," a song he remarked would be great for Richard Starkey in a hypothetical Beatles reunion. It wasn't to be.Unfortunately, that's how the album, and The Beatles story, ends. It's a tragedy in many respects, but the final act had some great music for all four of the solo artists. This album shows them all together at one point or another, because sometimes they didn't know who else they could turn to
What is the difference between Seiko's new Seiko 5 collection?
When I heard about the new Seiko 5 Sports models, this image immediately came to mind:(Photo was from r/watchescirclejerk on Reddit. I'm sorry if you don't understand the context)So, if you don't know what 5 means, it stands for 5 attributes of the Seiko 5 range:Water resistanceAutomatic windingDay-date indicationDisplay casebackDurable steel caseThe new Seiko 5 came out with a better movement, the 4R, with 2 new features, manual winding and hacking second. That gives the model an extra attribute: hand winding. It's a major upgrade from the 7S movement used in almost all previous 5's.Seiko has mounted the 5 range with the 4R before, but on a very small scale, on the Baby Monster models, but this is the first time they've done this on such a large scale: all 27 new Sports 5 models will have the 4R.So, Seiko 6. You can even call it Seiko 7 if you want. Here are the features:Water resistance: for washing hands and pool swimmingAutomatic winding: runs foreverDay-date indication: more complicated than an average RolexDisplay caseback: more show-off than all RolexDurable steel case: can resist fall damage, unlike the whimsy Swiss shittersManual winding: enjoy the ticking of the winding when you bring it to lifeHacking second: better than the Nautilus(Don't worry, the signature misaligned bezel insert is still there)Also, please note that this is not a divers'. It is not an SKX replacement. I haven't seen any news regarding the discontinuation of the SKX line, so don't worry, we'll still have it.The new Seiko 6 is coming this Fall with 5 different styles: Sports, Suits, Streets, Specialist and Sense. I believe MSRP would be around $300-400, but expect market price to be lower than that. And, please, Seiko, enough with the limited editions. Don't be like Seiko 5 reference XXXYYY, limited of a few hundred pieces.

I saw this this morning. This man was nearly murdered for doing a job! Imagine if you were a plumber and a couple of plumbers across the country went rogue and started destroying houses with bad plumbing, hurting people purposefully in the process. Youre a good plumber and would never consider doing thateverbut people know youre a plumber and know where you liveso one day you get a knock on your door you answer it and someone youve never me it there with an ice pick and is stabbing you in the face, trying to murder you and telling you that you were going to die thst dayall because youre a plumber and some bad plumbers have done bad things to other people in the country.how can you feel safe being a plumber ever again or leaving your family at home to have this happen to them?yes, I know about the people hurt by other plumbersbut they were rogue and you hate them as much as the rest of the countryyou just want to do the job you love and be the good plumber that you know you are but now theres a national vendetta against plumbers and you wont ever feel safe againyes, I get thst the picture is of a cop but I was trying to take the story to some other profession. I dont want my response to this question to start a BLM/ANTIFA/defund the police debate. I just want to call attention to the fear that those good plumbers live with on an hourly/daily basis theyve been called to a home to do plumbing repairs but they dont know if theyre really needed or theyve been lured there to be murdered?just food for thought.South Carolina police chief stabbed in face with ice pick after answering door.
What can I do if a collection agency doesn't give me proof that they have the authority to collect a debt?
One time, a collection agency contacted us for a medical bill for services that we did not believe were rendered. It was for a doctor who supposedly provided services to us in the ER. We never heard of this doctor, we didnt meet the doctor, and we certainly didnt authorize any treatment from the doctor. And, we had never seen a bill from this doctor. The first we heard of it was a bill from the collection agency which contained only a doctors name and a $ amount (I had to look up the doctor online to find out who they were, they werent on staff at the hospital we were at).I called the agency immediately, then followed up a few days later with a letter explaining that I could not possibly pay for services without having ever seen an original bill, which would show us clearly what we were supposedly paying for. Its important to note that I did all this within days of receiving the notice from the collection agency. This had no effect. The collection agency filed a suit, which I found out about when a subpoena arrived. I filed a long, multipage reply with the court, pointing out all the mistakes and falsehoods in the filing, and the fact that we had still never seen a bill, and it was ridiculous for the collection agency to merely claim we owed money, with no proof. I also explained how the collection agency was violating state law by filing suit after I had asked them to provide proof of the debt (and not providing any proof).I never received a bill and I never learned if it was a legitimate bill or not. In any event, the court case vanished
My daughter and I are in the middle of a series of books we started reading aloud together two years ago. Now she refuses to finish the collection. What would you do?
Turn it into a competition and play towards her ego. Either towards her ego or against her ego. I dont know the detail here, so either make her have to work hard to be better than mummy at reading or make it all about her and how great she is and (almost) better than mummy already at reading.
So tell her that the best TV presenters and movie stars learnt to read perfectly at a very young age, that they could memorise every story and recite them verbatim. Tell if she can do this really well she become a super star when shes older. Get her to act out scenes while she reads them.
Maybe also try incorporate some music and make her have to sing parts of her chapters, or make changes to the story to improve on it. Shes either bored and under challenged by it, or over challenged by it. I suspect that she is comparing herself to the other girls at school and might be getting teased about still having bedtime stories like a baby. I dont know her age or the details, but shes getting pressure from somewhere else to put an end to this. It could have been a scene in a movie or girls and boys at school that might ridicule how shes just like a baby. I think it might be a movie or TV that has her wanting to make it stop. Shes seen someone getting bullied at school over this as doesnt want to have the same fate happen to her, I dont know. Try rapping the stories to music. They grow up fast, so her two years ago shes a different person to her today, shes almost an adult now and will want to listen to Iggy Azalea, Rhianna and Taylor Swift. So get with it mom!All the best and trust me she will finish the series with you one day. I just hope its not on your death bed when shes in her 60s!"
