When did humans first see the colour blue?
We are talking about different things:Colour receptors in our eyesLanguage we have to describe coloursHistorical documents that mention coloursAs to the ability to see colours - that is there with us and our evolutionary ancestors just as all those things that appear as "blue" today. Our language patterns are variable. You can think of primary colours and mixed colours - and state the primary colours with all the imaginable mixes on an additional dark and light scale and that will do the job. But that is not how we do it. We do not speak of blue-yellow, we speak of green, just as we do not speak of blue-red but of violet - in English and other Germanic languages. Orange is the mix of yellow and red - and these terms are not the end of all the variation. If you are an artist in a paint shop you will know hues of pigments and you will have names for these. The distribution is not the same in all languages - just as we are not using a clear system in English or German. Red should be theoretically this colour -magenta with its shadings:but people are more likely to declare these yellow-magenta mixes to be truly red:we have cultural definitions of the real thing and we are led to believe that magenta is actually a mixture of light red with blue...When it comes to historical documents things get even messier. Homer is quoted for his coulour spectrum The see is never blue in his epics. Did his culture lack the word? This is not necessarily the conclusion to draw. He might have been inclined to use language in order to evoke certain impressions which he evoked with striking and impressive hues and colours. The really difficult question is: to what extent is our language influencing our perception of the supposedly real thing, the ideal which we will then state. To what extent do our languages create blind spots where other languages have far more definition.

------If Draco Malfoy had somehow been sorted into Gryffindor, how different would his storyline have been?
Draco Malfoy was not a malicious person from birth but made into one by his familial beliefs.Dumbledore himself asks Snape to kill him so that Draco doesn't have to , saying , The boys soul is still intact. Dumbledore knew killing someone would weigh on him unlike the Death Eaters but not Snape because he was all in the plan.
So sparing all the hate that Draco brought himself with to castle , I like to think this is what would've happened in the Gryffindor's common room.*in the morning, The Common Room*Ron : Hermione ! Where is Scrabbers , I can't find him anywhere . If your cat has eaten that poor old thing , you know he can't walk proper now ! Hermione *unhurriedly down the stairs * : It is such a nice day , Crookshanks must be out chasing butterflies . And he has better taste than Scabbers anyway . Ron :* goes by the window* What are you on about ! Chasing bloody butterflies , my .Oh he actually is doing that *later that day*Ron and Draco though not very good friends , Ron couldn't find anyone new who would listen to him moan about Scrabbers. And Draco looked too comfortable to move as Ron gabbed on and on about the evil cat .Ron *staring into the fire * I should do something about the bloody cat , you know he wouldn't leave poor old rat alone .Draco tired of hearing , decided it was time for some input.
Draco : How about I cause a ruckus and you toss that gingery thing into the fire ? Not to kill it or anything , but he could use a darker fur somewhere .Ron *in the dream world with no Crookshanks*: He does have some preety pale patches , wouldn't hurt anyone. Only if I thought Hermione didn't master curses that wouldn't require 2 years trip to St. Mungos.
I don't think Ron actually would've gone through that regardless his feelings and fear of Hermione but it does help the vent out the anger. If only Draco ever learned to look at the person and not the bloodlines , he would have been a pretty good fit in Gryffindor causing the mayhem with all the Weasleys and not to them
------Is Yngwie Malmsteen the greatest guitarist of all time?
Original Question: Is Yngwie Malmsteen the greatest guitarist of all time? The fastest singer is not necessarily the best singer. The fastest guitarist is not necessarily the best guitarist. Hence the old joke about heavy metalthe one that characterizes metal as a bunch of Hendrix licks played twice as fast and half as well.
The best guitarists have the most control over their instruments. The talent lies in the nuances they can add to each note and the perfection of their phrasingnot in the speed with which the notes are played. Thats why I consider Chet Atkins to be a much better guitarist than Yngwie Malmsteen.
AlasAtkins doesnt play metal. But I listen to metal and hard rock, and have for most of my life. I know that musical purists arent impressed with redundant 32nd notes, but I love that kind of shredding. At its best, its the growls and wails of a sky god.
Malmsteen is a great shredder, but so are other metal and hard rock guitarists. If Yngwie ever got sick, Zack Wilde is talented enough to fill in for him. So is Dream Theaters John Petrucciand his solos make more musical sense than Malmsteens.
Eric Clapton is mainstream rock, not hard rock or metal, and he doesnt play as fast as Malmsteen does. But his soloing always makes more musical sense than Malmsteens. His solo on Let It Rain thrills me more now than it did almost 50 years ago.
One of the reasons that I dont like Malmsteen as much as other shredders is the fact that his band, Rising Force, is not really a bandits Yngwie plus musicians who might as well be finger-puppets. Id be buying a lot more of his albums if his band were a real band with creative give-and-take among its members. Odds are, Rising Force would make better heavy metal as a result.
As for Chet Atkins, hes hipper than most people know. Check this out:
------Why are the Arabs so rich?
I addressed this question back in August last year. But here is what I wrote then with all respect to the answers already given here. The Rich Arab is a Hollywood myth and doesnt stand to the facts. Yes, Qatar is an Arab and it is very rich, actually it has the highest PPT (GDP per capita) in the world ($102,000). However, it is only 0.088% of the Arabs. The next rich Arab country is Kuwait but it ranks 25, ($42,000) which is way below Bermuda, Brunei, Singapore, and USA. Saudi Arabia ranks 44 ($31,300) and it is 10% of all Arabs, and it is way down after Iceland, Finland, Norway, Denmark and a dozen more. United Arab Emirates including Dubai and Abu Dhabi rank 48 ($29,000) but, again it has a tiny population. Jordan, Egypt, Algeria, Libya which make up most of the Arabs, they rank below 100 (out of 240 countries on the list, and their GDPs are $600011,000. (CIA World Factbook - is accurate as of January 1, 2014)Having said all those figures, the Arabs inhabit a continuous chunk of land from the Arabian Gulf (Westerners call it Persian Gulf) in the East to the shores of the Atlantic Ocean in the West.
. with 3 time zones. The area is extremely rich in resources, oil, gold, other minerals, farmland, sea ports, easy terrain for rail road, for example, and young population. The area is short on water, however, but not the worse in that.Unfortunately, Arab countries are ruled by tyranny, secret police, incompetent oligarchs, deep corruption, injustice, poor education, poor infrastructure, high unemployment, and plagued recently by civil wars. There are exceptions like Dubai, for example, whose leaders are the opposite of all the traits that are negative and keep Arabs down and out, off the world stage, even in sports, reflecting on the latest Olympics in Rio. One more leader like Sheikh Mohammad of Dubai in the right Arab country, size and resources, can propel the entire region forward in no time.Of course foreign, mainly Western powers will not and always tried and succeeded to sabotage Arab efforts for unity and democracy in order to keep them under their thumb (or combat boots to be exact), secure the flow of oil and prop puppet regimes on their strings. But that is another story.
